Happy Day!

Kids Yoga for Spring

Yoga is a great way to clean out the system after a long and cold winter, many of these poses (asana’s) come from the great yogi’s experiences of using movement to rejuvenate the body and mind. This weekend a few of my friends gathered together for some kids yoga and backyard play.

We warmed up our bodies with dynamic, strength building, body clearing poses, like utkatasana (chair pose) featured here. This pose builds strength and endurance even in little bodies!

And settled in for some deep restorative rest.

We completed our class by saying “namaste” to each other.

In true Backyard Mama style, the kids headed outside and jumped off rocks, played on the swing set, ran through the yard at lightening speed and …. most important…. all got along really well.

The children responded so well to having a calming yoga class that helped set the intention for a lively and fun filled day.

Happy Spring… the frogs are waking up! Using yoga to “wake up” the body is one way to stay healthy, happy and whole.
